Our Middle School

Our Middle School offers an inclusive educational pathway, catering to students of all English proficiency levels.

Our aim is to guide students towards developing a structured, autonomous, and independent study approach. This is achieved through intensive language learning in both English and German, complemented by a curriculum that includes a blend of humanistic and scientific subjects. The Middle School program culminates in the State Exam, conducted on our premises, and successful candidates receive a diploma issued by the Ministry of Education. This diploma opens the door for our students to pursue further education at any Italian public high school.

We extend a warm welcome to students from both public and private school backgrounds. The school week is organized into 40 instructional hours spread across 13 subjects  (subject division). Notably, while English is a core focus of our curriculum, prior English language proficiency is not a prerequisite as the school offers two distinct learning paths:

An Advanced group for students with a strong foundation in English.
A Beginners’ group tailored to students who are just beginning their English language journey.

Drawing upon its 40 years of experience, the European School of Trieste stands as the only bilingual learning environment that is both officially recognized and deeply integrated within the Italian educational system.

Cambridge Exam Preparation

During the Middle School cycle, our students receive comprehensive preparation for the Cambridge English Examinations PET and/or FCE. Additionally, we provide extracurricular courses for former students who aspire to take the CAE and CPE Cambridge examinations.

ÖSD German Language Exam preparation

Throughout the Middle School cycle, three lessons per week are devoted to learning German with a native-speaking teacher. Our students receive comprehensive preparation for the KID1 and KID2 examinations, which they take during the second and third years.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

We allocate two lessons per week to the study of digital literacy and Scratch coding in English. This equips students with a strong foundation in computing skills that extends beyond their natural understanding..

Latin Studies

Latin instruction commences in the first year. Delving into the roots of language, students learn to trace the origins of words, enhancing their grasp of sentence structure in Latin-based languages. This, in turn, enriches their proficiency in the Italian language.

Extra-curricular activities

  • Preparation for Cambridge certifications in English (PET, FCE, CAE, and CPE).

  • Preparation for ÖSD certifications in German (KID1 and KID2).

  • High school visits to assist students and families in making informed educational decisions.
