Our Primary School

Primary Cycle of Education

The primary cycle of education encompasses both Primary School and Lower Secondary School (or Middle School), effectively spanning nearly the entire developmental age range.

This phase is pivotal for laying the groundwork for learning and shaping a student’s identity. It forms the bedrock for the development of essential skills required for educational continuity. Starting at school, these skills can serve as guiding principles throughout an individual’s lifetime, embodying the concept of “lifelong education.”

Drawing upon its 40 years of experience, the European School of Trieste stands as the only bilingual learning environment that is both officially recognized and deeply integrated within the Italian educational system.

Teaching Methods and Objectives

Active School: it is our teaching method where the student is the main character of their own learning journey.
This approach enables us to achieve the goals of the first cycle, aiming for the child’s overall harmonious development and well-being. It promotes interdisciplinary activities and the acquisition of study methods and autonomy.

Classes are conducted through an interactive approach: students are encouraged to participate with observations, insights, and questions. This method stimulates their interest, curiosity, and desire to explore and learn, promoting a sense of shared learning and motivation.

During frontal lessons, teachers alternate among the most updated teaching methodologies:

  • cooperative learning;
  • peer tutoring;
  • hands-on and research-based learning in group activities;
  • coding, a cross-cutting methodology of digital culture aimed at critical learning of technology and networks for the development of computational thinking and programming skills.

Tools:

  • specific development update courses for teachers;
  • technology aimed at learning: interactive whiteboards, Google Chrome, tablets, and monitors for each classroom;
  • educational field trips and theme-based outings.

Inclusive outlook

In collaboration with local institutions, our school is committed to offering personalized support and assistance to students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties, and gifted abilities. This proactive approach aims to eliminate the risk of distress and school dropout, fostering collaboration between the school and families while emphasizing the paramount importance of well-being within the school environment.

For students transitioning from another school, we provide the invaluable support of a designated “tutor” teacher. This dedicated professional ensures the seamless integration of new students into their respective classes, facilitating a smooth and positive adjustment process.
